Dating to approximately the 1950s, this generous 34-inch square silk scarf celebrates Bermuda through a lively collection of illustrated landmarks, island icons and resort-life imagery.
A colorful map of Bermuda anchors the design, surrounded by a tropical hibiscus, pink-sailed boats, a leaping game fish, bicycle, horse-drawn carriage and scenes of Somerset Bridge, King’s Square in St. George’s and Reid Street in Hamilton. The Queen of Bermuda ocean liner adds an especially evocative period travel detail.
Across the center, Bermuda sweeps diagonally across the silk in oversized red script, becoming as much a part of the artwork as the illustrated destinations surrounding it.
The palette is pure vintage resort: coral red, sunny yellow, turquoise, pink and tropical green against a warm cream ground. A broad coral-red border and undulating bands of cream, red and yellow frame the artwork.
